Ethics Group (EG)

The Ethics Group ensures that the activities of EUROFORGEN-NoE are conducted in accordance with the laws and regulations applicable to the countries involved and that all Parties have obtained all relevant authorizations before the start of the relevant Project activities.

Ethics Group Lead: Prof. Robin Williams

Robin Williams has published widely on social and ethical issues in forensic genetics. His recent research has been funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Nuffield Foundation. He was a member of the Nuffield Council of Bioethics Working Party on the Police Uses of Bioinformation and co-author of their report published in 2008. He has participated in a number of international collaborations including the NIH funded Harvard Workshops on DNA Fingerprinting and Civil Liberties.

 

Members

Prof. Dr. med. Walter Bär

Walter Bär is former Director of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Head of the coordinating board of the Swiss DNA Database (EDNA) in Zurich, Switzerland. Within EUROROGEN-NoE he further acts as member of the Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Chris Hughes

Chris Hughes OBE is Independent Chair of the UK National DNA Database Ethics Group, seated in the UK. Within EUROROGEN-NoE he further acts as member of the Scientific Advisory Board.

Prof. Peter Gill

Peter Gill is Professor for Forensic Genetics at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. Within EUROROGEN-NoE he further is Lead of Workpackage 3.

Dr. Denise Syndercombe-Court

Denise Syndercombe-Court is Senior Lecturer in Forensic Haematology. Within EUROROGEN-NoE she further takes the  position of Leading Workpackage 4.

 

The group will also be able to call on the advice of Professor Thore Egeland (Norwegian University of Life Sciences) where issues of statistical reasoning are relevant to its deliberations.
